Issue 001

Welcome to the first edition of the Conscious & Bold Bulletin. I'm so happy you're here.

For this edition, I'm diving right in: a pretty table taking you from summer to fall, a sustainable decoration swap if you're craving something new (with a little something extra thrown in there) and, last but not least, a dessert I recently made and loved.

But before I let you read on for all the table setting how to's you love, I wanted to leave you with this notion: use the 3 Ws when you’re shopping decor updates. What are the raw materials? Who made it? Where is it shipping from?

Stay Conscious & Bold!

A Late Summer Table

Table setting with floral organic linen tablecloth and napkin
Setting the table for some last outdoor dinners before the weather turns. Even though I'm usually of the "More is more and less is a bore" fraction, I decided to let the prints shine on their own for this table. The Dramatic Iris print on the tablecloth gives such an array of colors, it's easy to take one and play with it, like I did with the green glasses and the Chamomile from the garden.

Everything on the table is either inherited, thrifted or from a sustainable production. Decorating boldly but with a conscious eye towards the environmental footprint doesn't have to be hard - but like everything in life, being mindful helps. The colorful plates from my aunt are the perfect whimsical offset to the more serious print (it was inspired by Dutch still lives after all!). For an evening dinner, I'd add votives in every size and shape; nothing is more beautiful than a candlelit dinner, especially for those last warm evenings before Fall.

Change your sofa - without changing your sofa

Floral organic linen pillow cover

The easiest way to update your sofa (or arm chair for that matter) is to change the throw pillows. And not just change their color but also their size, the quantity, the type (add a needlepoint one for example) - the options are endless.
Changing the upholstery of a sofa, on the other hand, can be intimidating and expensive. But it needn't be; a slip cover from a large tablecloth or a piece of fabric is a great option to change the look and color without going all the way of new upholstery. I'm usually too lazy to actually make the slip cover but it obviously looks more finished if you do.
Another option I love (if the design of the sofa allows it) is to take out the backrest cushions and replace them with extra large throw pillows. Just make sure you use fillers that are stuffed to the brim to provide good support.
And one last tip from me: take this code CHANGEISGREAT over to the shop and get 15% off for your next creative "change your sofa - without changing your sofa" project. Valid for every product - who knows where your creativity takes you. Because we all need a little change sometimes!

A Dessert to Take You from Summer to Fall

Summer to Fall Plum Cake from Once Upon A Chef
I cannot and will not ever claim that I created this delicious recipe for a late summer plum cake. But I find it's the perfect lead into Fall and I was able to use all the plums I had bought with great intentions.
